New TVs record viewers' emotions

Wait a minute – is something wrong here? Arent' we supposed to watch TVs and not the other way round? That seems to be the case with what NHK of Japan is going to do, where they will install small cameras in TVs to observe you while you watch whatever's being channeled to the tube. These cameras will be able to analyze movements as well as facial expressions in order to conclude on the kinds of programs and advertisements that you like, as well as what you don't. Are you comfortable with such technology?

We loathe to think of what would happen should someone hack into your camera's feed, and if you're sitting in your living room wearing your birthday suit, won't that be an invasion of privacy of the highest degree? Apart from that, data might not be that accurate with ads since most folks would use the opportunity to take a toilet break, or perhaps have a go at Plants vs Zombies on their smartphones.

Good thing that these are just prototype TVs at the moment, and it would be interesting to see just how far folks are willing to go to receive electronic entertainment after a hard day at the office.
