This year has not been a kind one for Kodak. Last month, the photography pioneer announced that it was filing for bankruptcy (and suing Samsung, incidentally), and now the company has let it be known that it will be dropping out of the digital camera business — and then some — marking an end to its line of digital point-and-shoots, pocket camcorders and digital photo frames. Production will end the first half of this year. The future for the company will hold printers, brand licensing, enterprise services and photo labs. Kodak will, however, continue to honor warranties on existing products.

Kodak EasyShare M215 Digital Camera

Kodak has unveiled another one of its upcoming digital camera namely the EasyShare M215. This pocket-sized camera offers a 14.3MP CCD sensor, a 26mm wide-angle lens, a 5x optical zoom lens, a 2.5-inch 230K TFT color LCD, a 15MB of internal memory, an SD/SDHC card slot, Eye-Fi card support, a USB 2.0 port and 720p HD video capture. Kodak EasyShare Sport C135 Rugged Compact Digicam

Kodak has rolled out a new rugged compact digital camera namely the Easyshare Sport C135. Priced at just $79.95, the dustproof and waterproof camera provides a 14-megapixel sensor, a 2.4-inch display, a fixed 35mm (eq.) lens, a VGA video mode and an Eye-Fi memory card support. Kodak considering selling 1,100 of its patents

With the Apple vs Samsung legal battle going on, you may have forgotten about Kodak's very own legal battle against Apple and Research In Motion (RIM). For those who may have forgotten, early last year Kodak sued Apple along with RIM for infringing on their image-previewing patent. Apparently the cost of an ongoing lawsuit can be quite expensive as Kodak has expressed interest in raising cash as their patent litigation income has started to dry up over the last two quarters.

In an attempt to raise money (and perhaps to end the lawsuit once and for all), Kodak has been reported to be considering selling some 1,100 patents which makes up for about 10% of the company's portfolio, and among those 1,100 patents is the very same image-previewing patent that Apple and RIM are accused of infringing upon.

Some are speculating that Apple and RIM may try to buy those patents not only to put an end to the lawsuit, but also to protect themselves. If another company were to buy those patents, Apple and RIM could very well see themselves back in court or be forced to pay royalties. As it stands, both Samsung and LG have already settled the lawsuit with Kodak for $900 million and could be one of the companies that may try to place a bid for those patents, also in an effort to protect themselves from future lawsuits.
